Hello all. My name is Melvin Todd and this is the site of said guy. I personally hate reading bios, so I'll let you know that we are instantly cool if you can make it through all of the text you see below, lol.
I was born in Mobile, Alabama and that is where I honed all my lil drawing talents. It became evident to me that I could draw in second grade, when I noticed that my ninja turtles looked a bit more like the cartoon than my classmates (well unless they traced, but I didn't need too, lol). As a kid, I was always drawing comics. I had a need to make one everytime I finished one up. It was kind of cool to have that kind of work ethic so young. I aready knew that I wanted to be a cartoonist.
I did that til I went to high school where I stopped drawing comics altogether (I blame girls honestly), but I never stopped drawing. My school had a great art program which had a focus in realism (shout out to my teacher Linda Holman). This is where my technical skills came in and I learned to draw what I see. Soon life like drawings were my main focus and took up the bulk of my portfolio where I recieved a perfect score on my AP portfolio (trust it's not easy to get that score).
Fast forward to 2003, the beginning of my college years, and I am in the tattoo shop (the Voodoo Needle) with my roommate as he is about to get a tattoo. The shop was looking for apprentices, so I sat down and drew some girls I think (hell I can't remember). At any rate Nathan Voodoo called me a couple days later and told me I had been hired. I served out my apprenticeship there and stayed there for five years. Alabama was cool, but I had a greater calling and I wanted to get to bigger and better tattoos. so I moved to Atlanta and joined the famous City of Ink.
I have been given the oppurtunity to grow as not only a tattoo artist, but an artist in general. I have the best mentors I could ever ask for in Miya Bailey and Tuki Carter. They challenge me on a daily basis and are not subtle into enocouraging me into knowing that I'm on the path of being a superstar artist. I'm far from my peak. so I appreciate them for it.
These days as my clientele grows and I find myself booked a few weeks or so in advance. I'm glad to say that my day job is everything I could want it to be. Now I am developing LoveLess Society and am eager to get it out to everyone. While they started as simple designs, the people have made it more. I can't wait to really get into what it is all about, but once the site lauches on Valentine's day 2012, just know that you guys are in for a treat. I hope to instill the same dedication into Loveless as I have with my tattoos.
Congrats...you made it to the end. Sorry for all that talking. Feel free to contact me if you have anymore questions.
